Our Approach

Freedom Verses engages our work as a pathway to a liberated future for racially marginalized queer and trans people and communities, including ourselves. This frame and our values guide us in everything we do – including how we do our work and with whom we work. We move beyond survival and scarcity culture by viewing spaciousness, abundance, rest, and replenishment not as luxuries, but as necessities. Along with deep relational work and connecting with values, we encourage individuals and organizations to leverage play and creativity to bring forth new possibilities.

Because we recognize that we are all part of broader ecosystems, we work toward bringing attention and intention to the impacts we have on one another. Freedom Verses commits to ensuring our business practices and the work we choose move us toward the world we are imagining – one that minimizes harm and violence, especially for racially marginalized, queer, trans, poor & working class, and disabled folks. And as we do this, we hold these values as guideposts for support and accountability:

Our Values:

  • We view agency as a pathway to collective liberation. We actively practice creating cultural norms that increase choice and freedom, centering the needs and dreams of racially marginalized queer and trans people and communities.
  • We are relational. We believe that long-lasting structural and cultural transformation is possible in the presence of relationships, accountability, and commitment.
  • We believe that the work of liberation asks us not just to dismantle systems of oppression, but to offer compelling, joyful, and just alternatives. We honor creativity and play as essential tools in experimenting with new possibilities
  • We value honesty and transparency with our clients and our communities, knowing that what we share increases access, challenges the individualism of capitalism culture, supports us in learning from one another, and generates more possibilities.
